Dr. Zvi Szafran, Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Szafran holds a Ph.D degree in Physical Inorganic Chemistry from the University
of South Carolina and a B. S. in Chemistry from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Prior to joining Southern Polytechnic, he served as Vice President for Academic
Affairs and Dean of Faculty at New England College, Henniker, NH, and in a variety
of positions at Merrimack College, North Andover, MA, including Department Chair of Chemistry and Dean of Science and
Engineering. He is widely published in fields related to the environment and chemistry.
He has been at SPSU since 2005.
Zvi has a wife, Jill, and a son, Mark. He writes a weekly blog about SPSU, academics, and life in general called THE WEEKLY BLAB.

Mr. Steve Hamrick, Registrar and Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs
Steve received a B.S. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Sociology from the
Regent's College of the State of New York in 1994, and an M.S. in Technical and Professional
Communication from SPSU in 1997. He taught at Chattahoochee Technical College as an adjunct for two years and has served as Registrar at SPSU for several years.
Before becoming the registrar, he was the assistant to the director of admissions
for a year, and director of records for two years. Steve continues as registrar and
has added the duties of assistant to the VPAA. He came to SPSU in 1995 after retiring
from the U.S. Army where he served as a cryptanalyst.

Debbie Patrick, Secretary to the Vice President for Academic Affairs
Debbie has been with SPSU since 1989. She has been a secretary in the offices of Humanities & Technical Communication,
Social & International Studies, and the Dean of Arts & Sciences prior to joining the
Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs in September 2005. Debbie also provides
support to the Director of International Programs and is the Campus Intake Coordinator
and Campus Liaison to the Consortium on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution (CNCR).
In her capacity as liaison for the CNCR, she also serves on the Alternative Dispute
Resolution Committee and is a member of the campus Impartial Board of Review for Classified
Personnel.
