CARNESVILLE, Ga. – On Saturday evening, the Southern Polytechnic State University men’s soccer team had to settle for a 0-0 double-overtime tie with the host Emmanuel College (Ga.) Lions in a Southern States Athletic Conference game at Rocky Ford Field. Southern Polytechnic is rated 10th nationally in the NAIA.
"It was a very disappointing night for us as we thought we did everything deserving of a win except for finishing,” Southern Poly head coach Kom Momeni said. “Our backs, midfielders and forwards all had a good night but we just couldn't finish”
The Hornets finished with a 15-4 advantage in shots, including 8-0 in the second half. SPSU had five shots on goal and Emmanuel four. In corner kicks, Southern Poly outnumbered the Lions by a 12-1 margin.
"It's games like these that keep you from winning the conference" added Coach Momeni.
In goal for the Hornets, senior Dennis Kramer played all 110 minutes in recording the shutout. He posted four saves.
SPSU is 10-3-1 overall and 6-2-1 in SSAC play while Emmanuel moves to 8-6-2 overall, including 3-5-1 in the conference. Southern Poly hosts the Lee University Flames in a SSAC contest next Saturday on Senior Day. The match is slated for 2 p.m. at Nuesoft Technologies Field with the Hornets’ three seniors – Kramer, Emeka Maduka and Andre Santos -- being recognized before the game.
