The SPSU Police Department prides itself on being one of the best trained university police departments in Georgia. It has always been SPSU Police Department's desire to provide the best possible training to its officers thus enhancing their ability to protect the lives and property of the campus community.
Each SPSU Police Officer is required to successfully complete 408 hours of basic mandate training before progressing to field training under the direction of a designated department trainer.
After completing Georgia Basic Peace Officer Training by Georgia P.O.S.T., SPSU Police Officers are required to attend a minimum of 20 inservice training hours to maintain their certification. The average SPSU Police Officer received 166 hours of training in 2010.
The SPSU Police Department maintains a dedicated full time training person. This person, the Lieutenant/Training and Standards manages departmental training for all members of SPSU Police.
