Marietta, Ga. (Aug. 31, 2011) – SPSU’s Construction Engineering program has earned accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc., the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology.
Construction Engineering is the first engineering program in the history of SPSU to have earned this distinction and, SPSU has offered the state’s only Bachelor of Science degree in this discipline since 2006.
ABET accreditation assures that a program has met quality standards set by the profession. To employers, graduate schools, and licensure, certification and registration boards, graduation from an accredited program signifies good preparation for entry into the profession. In fact, many of these groups require graduation from an accredited program as a minimum qualification.
“We could not have achieved this major milestone without all the hard work done by the following members of the Civil and Construction Engineering programs: Dr. Ilseok Oh, Dr. Sung-Hee Kim, Dr. Wasim Barham and Prof. Sam Beadles, as well as Cinthia Barnett, administrative assistant for the Division of Engineering,” said Dr. Thomas Currin, associate dean of the division. “We owe them our heartfelt thanks.”
