Graduate Certificate in IT Fundamentals

The Graduate Certificate in IT Fundamentals is aimed at individuals who hold an accredited bachelor’s degree in an area unrelated to computing but who would like to transition into a Master’s program in Information Technology, or obtain an entry-level positions in the industry.  Students who obtain the certificate have skills and knowledge in the areas of programming, web development, database systems, system administration and information assurance and security. All the courses in the graduate certificate in IT Fundamentals are offered both face-to-face and online.

Certificate Requirements:

Candidates must complete 6 courses below (10.5 hours)
IT 5101 Intro. to Database Systems 1.5
IT 5102 Intro. to Computer Security 1.5
IT 5200 Intro. to Platforms & OS 1.5
IT 5201 Intro. to Computer Networks 1.5
IT 5303 Intro. to Programming & Software Development   3
IT 5302 Intro. to Web Development 1.5

 

Degree requirements prior to 2012-2013

Candidates must complete 6 courses below (9 hours)
IT 5101 Intro. to Database Systems 1.5
IT 5102 Intro. to Compter Security 1.5
IT 5200 Intro. to Platforms & OS 1.5
IT 5201 Intro. to Computer Networks 1.5
IT 5303 Intro. to Programming & Software Development 1.5
IT 5302 Intro. to Web Development 1.5

Please note:

No courses can be transferred into graduate certificates.

Transitional Courses waiver:

No transitional courses can be waived or transferred into the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology Fundamentals.

MSIT students can request a waiver for a transitional course if:

  • The equivalent undergraduate or graduate course was completed in another accredited college or university,
  • The course is completed with a grade of "C" or better,
  • The course credit was earned within the last ten years.

Students can earn credit for transitional courses by participating in the credit-by-exam process.
