James Werner is Assistant Professor of Visual and Media Arts in the English, Technical Communication, and Media Arts Department. He earned his Doctorate of Education in the College Teaching of Art from Columbia University, Teachers College, focusing on critical theory in fine art and new media. He also holds a Masters in Fine Art from The Kent Institute of Art and Design in England.
Research
James' research focuses on the influences of new media on fine art, contemporary culture and the environment. He is interested in the study of new media aesthetics, cultural and visual theory, philosophies of aesthetics, and fine art education. He has been awarded grants for his research from the Spencer Foundation for Research and the Research Development Initiative in Scotland and publishes regularly.
James is also a practicing artist working with mixed mediums including installation, sculpture, painting and digital media. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally.
